Looking Beyond the Playlist

Hey there, my Padawans!
Now that another edition of Off the Beaten Track is in the books, I wanted to take a moment to thank everyone who tuned in and spent part of their Tuesday evening with me.
One of the greatest joys of doing this show is knowing that people are listening not just for the music, but for the adventure that comes with it. Every week we leave the well-traveled roads behind and explore songs that deserve another spin, artists who deserve another listen, and memories that deserve to be revisited.
Recently I've been spending a lot of time working on several larger radio projects that go beyond a traditional music show. Some involve artist histories. Some involve storytelling. Some involve connecting songs, events, and musicians into a larger narrative.
And if I'm being completely honest, I've discovered that the hardest part isn't finding the music.
It's writing the scripts.
Music comes naturally to me. Building playlists comes naturally to me. Sitting behind a microphone and talking with all of you comes naturally to me.
But when you start creating documentary-style programs, special presentations, and deep dives into music history, suddenly there are a lot of questions to answer.
How long will a script actually take to read?
Should a segment be three minutes? Five minutes? Ten?
Do I record those portions ahead of time so they sound polished and consistent?
Or do I keep everything live and preserve the spontaneous nature that makes radio feel alive?
The truth is, I don't know all the answers yet.
What I do know is that I enjoy doing as much as possible LIVE. There is an energy to live broadcasting that simply cannot be duplicated. Mistakes become moments. Unexpected thoughts become conversations. The audience becomes part of the experience.
At the same time, some stories deserve careful preparation and thoughtful presentation.
So that's where I find myself right now—somewhere between planning and performing, between scripting and spontaneity, learning what works and what doesn't.
The exciting part is that every show teaches me something new.
Every playlist improves.
Every broadcast gets a little better.
And every project brings us one step closer to creating something truly special.
So if you've been tuning in, thank you. Your support means more than you know.
If you've shared a post, requested a song, visited the website, subscribed on YouTube, or simply listened quietly from somewhere out there in the galaxy, you've helped make this journey worthwhile.
The music keeps playing.
The ideas keep growing.
And there are some very exciting things on the horizon.
Until next Tuesday...
