Off the Beaten Track: Playing the Songs I Love

Greetings, my Padawans!
It is Tuesday once again, which means that tonight at 6 PM Eastern, I will be settling into the DJ chair, firing up the equipment, opening the microphone, and heading off in whatever musical direction feels right for another edition of Off the Beaten Track.
And this week I decided not to make things unnecessarily complicated.
Tonight, I'm playing favorites.
Some of them are simply favorite songs of mine. Some are favorite songs from bands and artists that I love. Some may be deep cuts. Others may be huge songs that everybody and their brother has heard a thousand times—but they're great songs, and sometimes a great song is worth hearing for the thousand-and-first time.
That's one of the things I love about Off the Beaten Track.
There doesn't always have to be a complicated theme.
Sometimes the theme can simply be:
“I love this song. Turn it up.”
Favorite Songs From Favorite Bands
There are bands where trying to choose a single favorite song is practically impossible.
You start thinking about one track, then remember another. Then another. Then suddenly you're mentally building a six-hour radio show when you were originally trying to pick one song.
This happens to me rather frequently.
Okay.
It happens to me constantly. 😂
But that's part of the fun.
Tonight's show gives me permission to wander through the music I genuinely enjoy and pull out songs that mean something to me, songs that remind me why I love particular artists, and songs that are simply ridiculously enjoyable to hear coming through the speakers.
And because this is Off the Beaten Track, there are no genre police standing outside the studio.
Rock can lead into new wave.
Alternative can lead into classic rock.
Metal can wander into electronic music.
The 70s can run headfirst into the 80s, which can accidentally collide with the 90s before somebody takes a wrong turn and suddenly we are somewhere completely different.
That is not a programming failure.
That is the show.
Requests Are ALWAYS Welcome
One of my favorite things about doing Off the Beaten Track is that the playlist doesn't necessarily belong entirely to me once the show begins.
You can change it.
If there's something you want to hear, let DJ Jedi know!
Requests will always be honored whenever I can make that happen. If I already have the song in the music library, fantastic. If I don't have it but it's reasonably easy for me to get, I'll make every effort to find it and get it on the air.
And don't worry about whether your request “fits.”
Have you met this show?
There isn't much that doesn't fit Off the Beaten Track.
If we're listening to Pink Floyd and you suddenly decide you need Talking Heads, ask.
If we're listening to alternative rock and you suddenly need some funk, ask.
If we're happily living in 1983 and you decide we need to teleport into another decade entirely...
Ask.
I love the unpredictability of taking requests during a live show. Sometimes one request completely changes the direction of the next several songs, and those unexpected little musical detours are often some of my favorite moments.
Join Me Every Tuesday
Off the Beaten Track airs every Tuesday at 6 PM Eastern whenever circumstances allow me to get behind the controls and bring you the show.
I love doing these broadcasts live because live radio has something that a perfectly polished playlist simply doesn't.
It has personality.
It has mistakes.
It has surprises.
It has requests.
It has moments where I suddenly remember a song I haven't heard in fifteen years and decide that everybody listening needs to hear it immediately.
And sometimes it has DJ Jedi wondering how in the hell the playlist managed to travel from Point A to Point Z without visiting any of the letters in between.
Again...
That's Off the Beaten Track.
Jedi Council Radio Keeps Playing
Of course, the music doesn't end just because the Tuesday show does.
Jedi Council Radio is designed to keep going 24 hours a day, seven days a week, as long as I have internet and the broadcasting software hasn't encountered one of those occasional technological adventures that require me to get everything flowing again.
And unlike commercial radio, you're not going to hear the music chopped into pieces every few minutes by a pile of advertisements.
Jedi Council Radio has no ads.
The library is largely shuffled, which is another reason I enjoy the station so much. You never completely know what's coming next.
There is music I've selected, music connected to various projects I've created, familiar favorites, deeper cuts, unexpected combinations, and plenty of things that might make you stop whatever you're doing and say:
“Wait...I haven't heard THIS in forever!”
Those are some of my favorite moments in music.

If I have it—or it is reasonably easy for me to get—I will do everything I can to play it for you.
Tonight at 6 PM Eastern
So that's the mission for tonight.
Favorite songs.
Favorite songs from favorite bands.
Songs I haven't played in a while.
Songs I probably play too often but refuse to apologize for.
Your requests.
A few surprises.
And whatever musical rabbit hole we happen to fall into along the way.
That's exactly how I like Off the Beaten Track.
So grab your headphones, turn up the speakers, tell a fellow music lover, send me a request, and join me tonight at 6 PM Eastern.
Let's see where the music takes us.
May the Music Be with You!
