Building Behind the Scenes, Broadcasting Out Front
There has been a lot going on behind the scenes lately.
Some of it is visible. Some of it definitely is not.
One of the biggest things I have been working on is getting Staticworks ready for launch.
It is not ready yet, and I do not want to pretend that it is. There are still pieces that need to come together, details that need to be worked out, and plenty of things that need to be finished before I can really say, “Okay, this is ready to go.”
But progress is being made.
A lot of progress.
I have been spending time thinking through what Staticworks is going to be, what it should represent, how it should look, how it should operate, and what kind of work I want associated with the name.
That means working on branding, organization, planning, creative direction, business ideas, and all of the less exciting little details that nobody really sees when they look at the finished product.
And honestly, that is part of the process.
A finished project always looks simple from the outside.
You see the logo.
You see the website.
You see the finished artwork.
You hear the completed song.
You watch the finished video.
What you do not see are all the revisions, bad ideas, abandoned ideas, reorganized folders, rewritten plans, changed graphics, late-night thoughts, and those moments where something just does not feel right yet.
That is where Staticworks is right now.
It is being built.
Carefully.
I would rather take the time to build something that feels right than rush it out just so I can say it launched.
One of the ideas behind Staticworks that has stuck with me from the beginning is simple:
Nothing leaves the studio until it is finished.
That does not mean everything has to be perfect.
Perfect is probably impossible anyway.
It means the work has to feel complete. It has to have a reason for being there. It has to earn its place.
That is the standard I am trying to build into Staticworks from the beginning.
And Then There Is the Music
While all of that has been happening behind the scenes, one thing has remained constant:
I still get to bring you music every week.
And I genuinely love doing that.
Off the Beaten Track has become one of those things I look forward to every week.
It gives me a chance to sit down, go through music, rediscover things I have not heard in ages, find songs I forgot about completely, stumble across something new, and then put it all together into a show.
Some weeks there is a theme.
Some weeks there is a direction.
And some weeks, like this one, the playlist looks like somebody dumped several record collections onto the floor and said, “Okay, make a radio show out of that.”
Those can be some of the most fun shows.
I have always loved music that crosses boundaries.
I do not particularly care whether one song supposedly “belongs” next to another one.
If it works, it works.
That is really what Off the Beaten Track has always been about.
Maybe we hear something familiar.
Maybe we take a strange detour.
Maybe somebody sends in a request and suddenly the entire direction of the next twenty minutes changes.
That unpredictability is part of what makes doing the show fun.
There is something pretty incredible about sitting behind a computer, putting on a song you love, and knowing that somebody somewhere else is hearing it at the same time.
That connection is one of the reasons I keep doing this.
More Than One Thing Can Be Growing at Once
I think that is where I am creatively right now.
There are several things growing at the same time.
There is DJ Jedi.
There is Jedi Council Radio.
There is Off the Beaten Track.
There is Staticworks slowly taking shape behind the scenes.
There are music projects, artwork, production ideas, and probably several things floating around in my head that have not even figured out what they want to become yet.
And I am okay with that.
I do not need everything to happen at once.
I just need to keep moving forward.
A little more work.
A little more polish.
A little more music.
Then repeat.
Staticworks will launch when it is ready.
Until then, I am going to keep building it.
And every Tuesday, I still get to turn on the music and spend a few hours doing one of the things I enjoy most.
Tonight is another one of those nights.

Come hang out.
Bring a request.
Stay for something you did not expect to hear.
And as always…
