Behind the Frequency: Music, radio, creativity, and life on the other side of the speakers. Saturday Thoughts: Building Something from the Ground Up
Saturday, October 17, 2026
There's something exciting about waking up with ideas bouncing around in your head. Sometimes those ideas involve music. Sometimes they're about something entirely different. And sometimes, if you're anything like me, there are about seventeen different creative projects fighting for attention at once!
Welcome to another Saturday edition of Behind the Frequency, where I get to share a little of what's happening in my world beyond the DJ booth.
Lately, I've been thinking a lot about building things. Not necessarily things you can pick up and hold, but creative things. Projects, opportunities, relationships, and perhaps even a future I couldn't have imagined a few years ago.
And I've got some pretty exciting things happening.
YouTube, Creativity, and @JediMastery
One of the things I've been focusing on is my YouTube channel, @JediMastery.
YouTube is something I've wanted to explore more seriously because it offers another way to express myself creatively. Music and radio will always be a huge part of who I am, but there's so much more I enjoy doing, and I'd love to share those things with a wider audience.
I love the idea of creating content that reflects my personality and interests rather than trying to squeeze myself into one particular category.
I've never been particularly good at staying inside those neat little boxes anyway!
Whether it's music-related content, video projects, creative experiments, or simply sharing something I find interesting, I want @JediMastery to become another outlet for the things that make me tick.
There's a learning curve involved, of course. Creating interesting content takes planning, experimentation, patience, and sometimes a willingness to laugh at yourself when something doesn't work quite the way you envisioned.
But that's part of the fun.
I'm not expecting everything to happen overnight. I want to learn, improve, and build something that feels authentic.
If you'd like to follow that journey, look me up on YouTube at @JediMastery. I'd love to have you along for the ride.
Staticworks: Turning an Idea into Something Real
Now, here's something I'm particularly excited about.
I've been putting a great deal of thought and energy into Staticworks, my creative production business.
For those who haven't heard me mention it before, Staticworks is the umbrella under which I hope to bring together many of the creative things I enjoy doing.
Graphic design, audio production, video editing, visual content, radio production, branding, and other creative services are all part of the bigger picture.
The idea is simple: take the skills I've developed, continue learning new ones, and put them to work creating things that serve a purpose.
I don't want Staticworks to be just another name attached to a logo. I want it to mean something.
I want people to associate it with creativity, attention to detail, and work that someone genuinely cared about making.
One of the philosophies behind Staticworks is that nothing leaves the studio until it's finished.
That doesn't mean every project has to be extravagant or complicated. It means that whatever I create should be something I can stand behind.
And right now, I'm working on getting Staticworks off the ground.
Building a Portfolio, One Project at a Time
One of the challenges of starting a creative business is establishing a portfolio.
You can tell people what you're capable of doing, but there's something much more powerful about actually showing them.
That's why I've decided to begin taking on some pro bono creative projects for friends, with the possibility of extending that to a few local businesses.
In other words, I'm willing to donate some of my time and creative services to help others while building a body of work that demonstrates what Staticworks can do.
Maybe someone needs a logo or a fresh look for their business. Maybe they need help with promotional materials, a social media graphic, some video editing, or another creative project.
There are plenty of possibilities, and I'm excited to explore them.
I especially like the idea that this could benefit everyone involved.
A friend or small business gets some creative assistance they might not otherwise have the resources for, and I get valuable experience working with different people, understanding their ideas, and turning those ideas into something tangible.
With permission, some of those finished projects can become part of the Staticworks portfolio.
Of course, doing something pro bono doesn't mean doing it carelessly. These projects will receive the same attention and creative effort I'd want associated with any work carrying the Staticworks name.
My hope is to build a portfolio that shows versatility, imagination, and the ability to create something meaningful for someone else.
And who knows? A small project for a friend today could eventually lead to bigger opportunities tomorrow.
Every business has to start somewhere.
There's More to Creativity Than Having a Good Idea
Something I've discovered over the years is that having creative ideas is the easy part.
Actually bringing them to life? That's where the work begins.
There are designs to refine, software programs to learn, edits to make, mistakes to correct, and sometimes entire ideas to rethink.
There are moments when everything comes together beautifully, and other moments when you wonder why the computer has apparently decided to become your mortal enemy.
But when you finally finish something and look at it with that wonderful feeling of accomplishment, all the frustrating moments become worthwhile.
I'm discovering that I genuinely enjoy that process.
I enjoy taking something that begins as a vague idea and turning it into something people can see, hear, or use.
That's the part of Staticworks I'm most excited about.
Not simply creating things for the sake of creating them, but creating things that actually do something.
And Yes, the Music Is Still Playing!
With all this talk about YouTube, design, portfolios, and business plans, you might be wondering where the music fits into everything.
Well, the music isn't going anywhere!
Jedi Council Radio continues broadcasting around the clock, bringing music to listeners 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
My weekly show, Off the Beaten Track: Tuesday Edition, is still very much part of my routine, airing Tuesdays at 6 PM Eastern. It's my opportunity to share an unpredictable mixture of music, discoveries, familiar favorites, and whatever happens to catch my ear.
And then there are my live DJ sessions inside my virtual world, which I also broadcast over the station.
From early morning beach sets on Wednesdays and Thursdays to Friday afternoons and evenings at Abductions, my in-game nightclub, there's plenty of music happening throughout the week.
Those Friday sessions have become especially enjoyable because of the different musical themes. One week might be grunge, another might be rock, and this weekend we're enjoying the sounds of the 80s.
Sometimes I'm chatting away and having a blast with everyone. Other times I let the songs speak for themselves.
Either way, the music is always at the heart of it.
And really, all these different projects are connected by the same thing: my love of creating experiences and sharing them with other people.
Starting Small Doesn't Mean Thinking Small
I've been reflecting on something lately.
It's very easy to look at a project in its early stages and focus on everything it isn't yet.
Staticworks isn't a huge production company. I don't have an enormous advertising budget, a fancy studio filled with expensive equipment, or a line of clients waiting outside the door.
What I do have is enthusiasm, creativity, determination, and a willingness to learn.
And that's a pretty good place to start.
I have ideas. I have projects already under my belt. I have people in my life who encourage my creative interests. And perhaps most importantly, I have a genuine desire to see where all of this can lead.
I'm not trying to become an overnight sensation.
I'd rather build something gradually, do good work, develop my skills, and let the results speak for themselves.
If the portfolio grows, if @JediMastery finds an audience, and if Staticworks eventually becomes a thriving little creative business, that would be wonderful.
And I'm going to enjoy the journey of trying to make those things happen.
A Little Invitation: Let's Create Something Together!
As I work on getting Staticworks off the ground, I'm looking for a few opportunities to build my professional portfolio, and I'd love to involve some of the people and businesses in my community.
I'm currently considering a limited number of pro bono creative projects for friends and potentially some local small businesses.
What does pro bono mean? Simply put, it means I'm offering my creative time and services free of charge on selected projects while I develop my portfolio and gain more experience working with different creative needs.
Maybe you're a friend who needs a logo, a graphic, or something special designed. Perhaps you're a local business owner who could use some help with promotional materials, social media graphics, branding, or another small creative project.
I'd love to hear your ideas!
There's just one important thing I'd like everyone to understand: this isn't an open-ended offer for unlimited free work. I'll be selecting a small number of manageable projects based on the type of work involved, my available time, and how each project might contribute to the Staticworks portfolio.
In return for donating my creative services, I'd simply ask for permission to showcase the completed work as part of my portfolio, with appropriate credit where applicable.
My goal is to create something beneficial for both of us. You get a creative project completed without a professional service fee, and I get the opportunity to demonstrate what Staticworks can do.
I'm excited about the possibilities, but I'm also approaching this as a learning and growing experience. Every project will be an opportunity to improve my skills, explore new ideas, and build something I'm proud to put the Staticworks name on.
If you've got an idea, reach out and let's talk about it! There's no guarantee I'll be able to take on every request, but I'm certainly interested in hearing what people have in mind.
After all, some of the best creative collaborations start with a simple conversation.
And who knows? Maybe we'll make something pretty awesome together!
One Last Thought for This Saturday
I've spent a lot of my life appreciating creativity in other people.
Musicians, artists, writers, designers, filmmakers, and all those wonderfully imaginative people who take something that exists only in their minds and give it a place in the world.
Now I'm putting more of my own creativity out there.
Not because I think I know everything. Quite the opposite, actually. There's an enormous amount I still want to learn.
But I'm excited about learning it.
I'm excited about creating things for people.
I'm excited about watching Staticworks develop its own identity.
And I'm excited to see what happens with @JediMastery as I continue exploring the possibilities of making content for YouTube.
For someone whose life has always revolved around music and creative expression, this feels like a natural next chapter.
The road ahead isn't completely mapped out, and that's okay.
Sometimes the best discoveries happen when you wander a little off the beaten track.
Funny how that works, isn't it?
Thanks for spending part of your Saturday with me, and thanks for being part of this ongoing creative adventure.
Until next time, keep listening, keep creating, and never underestimate what can grow from one good idea and the determination to see it through.
May the Music Be with You!
